Heather Keely
Born in 1992, Heather was raised in a sub-rural area southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the daughter of a long line of patriarchal steel workers and a mother whose most prized possessions are endless stacks of novels. Her polarizing parents mirror her affection for a dirty craft as a means to produce delicate art. Spending time outdoors is a keystone in Appalachian childhoods, and the valley below did not stray far, bringing dirty scrapes and ample bruises. Nature weaves its way into her art thick as the brambles of western Pennsylvania. Inspiration springs from classic tales and myths, pulling a current of soft rage against domesticity, and the value of feminine sovereignty through illusionary imagery.
Heather studied Secondary Art Education at Carlow University in Pittsburgh. Seeking out every opportunity to enroll in Art History and women centered courses, her passions became apparent. Additionally, one printmaking class captured her nostalgia for dirty fingernails and an affinity for detailed illustration. Upon graduating, Heather made the decision to invest in herself and start a solo studio career based out of her home in Pittsburgh. She lives with her husband David, and their dachshund Limo.

“I hover six inches in the air
in my blazing swan-egg of light.
You think I'm not a goddess?
Try me.
This is a torch song.
Touch me and you'll burn.”
